Merry Christmas!

On a much different note, Christmas is here to help distract me from all the other stuff I need to get done. This year, being at Communications Group, I get a few days off to relax. In about 45 min, I'll be heading out of the office for a nice 4 day break.

My 'Christmas' started last Sunday with supper at the Bollinger farm. It was a really great time visiting with most of my family, and running around after Nichole. We had a great (very filling!) supper, and opened gifts. Once the younger members opened their specific presents, the rest of us took part in the traditional Chinese Gift Exchange. Not a lot of gift stealing happened, but the Edmonton Oilers mug set that I ended up with I had to take from my cousin. I ended up leaving it there anyway, so I'll have to go out and get it in the next few days.

The next Christmas gathering for me will be tonight at Mandi's family cabin. Tomorrow morning we head to Edmonton to spend the day with Lee (my younger brother) and have dinner with him and the family there. Then, we'll start boxing day off with a visit to Mandi's Mom's place, and end the holiday festivities visiting my Aunt, Uncle and cousins at the Calliou family home. After that, I'll be able to enjoy a couple days off (the weekend) trying to complete the electrical install in the basement of my future home.

I hope you're able to enjoy your Christmas, and I hope when it's all done with, you're feeling more than just fat and hung over (I'm with you on the fat part), and I hope you're happy with whatever gifts you receive. But whatever the case, I hope you remember why the Christmas season was made a Holiday, and how ironic it is that we stress so much trying to make it festive. I don't really need to say anymore.

Happy Holidays, have a great Christmas!

Thanks To www.pagesgarden.com For The Extra Work!

So, as you may have noticed, things haven't been functioning properly at www.bassdrum.ca over the last week. I'm still not sure what the story is, as www.pagesgarden.com (the company that sold me web space) is still down, and I haven't got a response yet from anyone on there end, but because they are down, bassdrum.ca was down as well. So I packed up my site and moved. I'm now (so far happily) hosted by a company called www.iweb.com, for a better price. Sometimes change is necessary, and I hope this is a change for the better.

In the mean time, due to the normal time period it takes to finalize a website move, and my busy life (and Christmas), not all systems are fully functional on the site. But, it's Christmas eve, and my time is limited, so, as painful as it might be :) we might have to wait a few days before it's all up to date. Until then, Have a great Christmas!

Stupid Spammers!

Here's the deal. Unfortunately, because someone has to be a loser and post junk messages and obscene spam on the feedback page, I have to edit everything that comes through before it gets posted from now on. So, please continue to leave your feedback, but until I can limit junk and spam, it might take a short while to show up on the feedback page.

Thanks to most of you for your feedback. Let me know if you know how to prevent spam.

Jesus Saves...

For those of you who don't know, my favorite band (by far) is Great Big Sea. I know and love almost all of their music, and I'm always so excited when I'm able to cross paths with them, and Sunday was no exception. And when the night was over, that concert will stick in my mind as probably the most memorable of all (Check out my Stereoactive page for the details). One of the lesser plus's of Sunday's show was actually in regards to a song that they didn't play. It may sound funny, but here's my story.

I'm a Christian. That means I love God, I desire to know Him better and to obey Him (although I fail misserably), and to surround myself with others who feel the same way. So, because of the impact music has on my life, it would be such a huge deal if my favourite band would also have a heart for God. Now, it may all sound silly, and there are pleanty of amazing Christain artists I could be listening to, but I am drawn to the style, sound and lyrics of GBS. And I know they love to sing a good drinking song and put on a great party. I don't drink, but I still get so caught up in the music and have such a great time. And I'm not complaining. But, on their last album, they included a song that made me shiver with discomfort and sadness. The song is called "Straight to Hell".

It's a first person perspective about how the singer sold his soul to the devil, so now may as well make the best of life before an eternity in Hell. I'm not going to get into my interpretation and theology in this blog about Hell, but because I believe in it, it pains me when someone important in my life says (even, especially, in a fun tone) that they are going there.

Now, before you scoff too much, understand that I sing and laugh at so many of their songs that you might think I wouldn't. For example "Scolding wife", a song about how the singer is so pained by his marriage and his wife's behaviour that he says, "if the devil would take her, I'd thank him for his pain...". To me, this is a lot different than saying "I have every expectation That my final prayers will go unheard And my veiled death bed confession Will not move the Mighty Lord..."

To make a long story short (too late?), I love to listen & laugh at things like "Scolding Wife", and Alan's "Jesus Saves" hockey shirt, but it's so hard to listen to someone I look up to tell the world that Jesus can't save him. I know his Mom agrees with me :p

Much Ado About Lots

So, here it is. My first official attempt at an entry from my Pearl.

If you've been in the loop lately, you'll be aware that a new house build is in the immediate future. It should be in progress as I type, but we ran into a couple of snares. A Few months ago, we picked out a lot, submitted a floor plan, and tried to sell our house. But, due to the time it took us to sell our home, we were forced to give up our first choice and settle with a different one. We sold our house, got financing in place and started the final drawings. That's when we found out we were four feet too narrow! So, here we are, a few grand higher in price, waiting for the details of our third possible future piece of land. Hope to have things finalized soon.

In the mean time, I'm fervently trying to finish the basement suite in the rental home. Anyone a pro at hanging doors?

Landslide Lake & Lake Of The Falls

It's decided! I'll be making three trips this summer to Landslide Lake and / or (preferably) Lake Of The Falls (David Thompson Hwy / Cline River area of Western Alberta). My first trip will be to pre-hike the trail to familiarize myself with it on the weekend of June 20-22. Then, the weeks of July 21-25 and August 4-8 I'll have the pleasure of sharing this experience with some of Camp Alexo's adventure seeking youth.

If you're looking for something for you or a young person you know to do this summer, my recommendation is Alexo. Camp Alexo (along with the YVC and Red Deer's Boys & Girls club and Big Brothers & Sisters) has played a major role in my life from the age of 5, and every year since. So now it gives me so much pleasure to be able to offer as much as I can to help maintain the amazing experience that I knew it to be. And, ok, I admit it, I still have as much fun there as I ever did.

Other things that are new and upcoming...
I've booked my November trip to Mexico for Travis & Kelly's wedding, as well as my Ships N' Dip Cruise in Feb through the Caribbean, and I've spent the last few weeks packing to get ready to move out! It's a lot of stress, but I know it'll be worth it all once we move into our new home, which I hope will be ready by October. Hmm. Until then, it's time to visit family & friends! Thanks everyone who has offered us a place to live this summer. Much appreciated!

52g In A Reusable Box (And "You're Only As Old As The Women You Feel")

So, here's my question of the day: Why do they use a reusable box for 52 grams of candy (for example, Bridges Mixture) when my Wonderbar weighs 6 grams more and comes in a throw-away wrapper? Why doesn't Cadbury give you a resealable package? I'll tell you why; they know you're gunna eat the whole thing at one time, that's why! I ate both on the way home from the gas station tonight. Good stuff.
Anyway, now that you got me here, I might as well tell you what I thought about the movie "Leatherheads" that I saw (solo trip) at the Galaxy on April 24th. Ok, actually, I'm really only telling you that I did see it. The little I will say though, is it was worth it. Very funny, not sure if I'll buy it, but many good lines. My favorite has to be George Clooney's "You're only as old as the women you feel". Classic! If you haven't seen it yet, it's done to look as if it was filmed years ago, and the acting is very fast paced and witty, and therefore obviously (and purposely, I think) non-realistic. (the acting, I mean). Really good story, I did enjoy it.

2 And A Half Movies

It's been a while since I've been in a Red Deer movie theatre, and other than Cloverfield in the Bahamas, it's been almost a year! So, a little while ago (Tuesday April 8th) Mandi, Tara, Nichole & I went to Carnival to check out "Definitely, Maybe", but only because I watched (and got photos of) the filming of the New York city Central Park scene. Unfortunately, I couldn't tell you what it was about because I was taking care of Nichole for a good part of it. I might have to watch it over sometime.
Then, Sunday night (the 20th), I took myself on a date to the new Galaxy theatre. Really nice to finally have a real theatre in town. I went to see "88 Minutes" and I really enjoyed it. Great action, but Al's supporting actresses needed some more acting training. Good movie, don't think I'll buy it though.
And then, last night (the 22nd) Mandi & went to Galaxy to check out "Drillbit Taylor". It was funny, I laughed. I wouldn't rate it too highly, though, not one of my top Owen Wilson movies, but worth seeing.

All in all, my movie theatre withdrawals are finally being curbed, and I feel a little more relaxed. :) I hope to see more soon. See you at the movies!

Oilers, & Flames...

You know, It's been exciting as an Oilers fan lately, and tonight was no different. With a 5-3 win over Minnesota Wild, Edmonton is sure doing their part. And, doing Calgary a favor, too. It's unfortunate that Calgary wasn't there to return the favor! I suppose they're scared to face Edmonton in the post season. Oh well, hopefully Edmonton will keep winning, and one of the few teams ahead will lose a couple, we might get a few more games this season. Here's hoping!

Great Big St. Patty's Party!

I just wanted to thank Kelly very much for taking Nichole last night while her fiance (Travis) joined Mandi, Tara & I for a fun night in Edmonton (Enoch, actually) with Great Big Sea. Unfortunatly, no photos. Travis tried with his phone, but he almost got kicked out for it. Hmm, I wonder if any turned out. I'll have to ask him... Anyway, that's all for now. Fun night, thanks Kelly!
