SHOW REVIEW || GREAT BIG SEA

Jubilee Auditorium, Edmonton November 30, 2008

Ok, this was amazing. It started with Tara reserving amazing front row seats for her, Mandi & I at the Jubilee in Edmonton. We left Nichole with my Mom and headed to the Auditorium for the show. As always, I was really looking forward to the concert, and I'm always hoping to see some new merchandise. But after numerous shows with nothing new, I was pleasantly surprised to see some new stuff. I got a fleece jacket for Nichole and a Fortune Favour shirt for myself.

Our seats were amazing, and we found out photography was allowed, so that was cool (with all the amazing photo opps this show), and seeing so many familiar faces made it that much better.

But, that's only the beginning! They played all the songs I wanted to hear and skipped the only one I didn't (read my blog for more details), had 2 awesome encores, and such an amazing crowd that make the atmosphere so powerful.

And then, during the final moments of the final encore, as the crowd was up and cheering (although I hardly remember much at all of my surroundings at this point), Kris MacFarlane picked up his drumsticks, walked toward the edge of the stage, leaned down to shake my hand, and, saying hi to me by name, handed me his drumsticks. I tell you, I don't know of a time that other people looked on me with such envy, ever! That would most definitely be one of the most memorable (and, yes, proudest) moments of my life.

This, by far, was the best concert experience I have ever had. Amazing!

CORRECT SHOW DATE || SPIRIT OF THE WEST

McDougall United Church, Edmonton || October 18th, 2008

In the last entry, I told you to meet me in Edmonton on October 17th to catch 'Spirit Of The West', but I was mistaken. It's actually the day after, (Saturday) on the 18th.

Or, if you really want to hear them, but hockey is on the agenda that night, don't worry! They'll be at the Oilers game doing the National Anthem shortly before their evening performance. It's a win-win!

NEW SHOW DATE || SPIRIT OF THE WEST

McDougall United Church, Edmonton || October 17th, 2008

It'll be my 2nd viewing this year, but I'm still looking forward to it as much as I was my first. Spirit Of The West will be playing on the final day (Saturday) of the "Western Canadian Music Awards" which appears to be taking over downtown Edmonton for the weekend (October 16-19). Tickets are $20 for the entire weekend (GA) at Ticket Master. See you there? Sounds Great!

NEW SHOW DATE || MAHONES

New City Compound, Edmonton || October 10th, 2008

It's been a while since I was able to stomp around to some good Irish Punk, so I'm looking forward to The Mahones on the 10th. If you're interested, they're playing at the "New City Compound" in Edmonton. I think doors open at 21:00 (9pm). It'll be fun!

Revamped!

There. Revamped.

Any good shows coming up? Let me know!

So far I've decided to skip GBS's Calgary concert I mentioned last time simply due to costs, and the fact that the Edmonton show should be enough to get me from this summer's secret show in Calgary to "Ships N Dip V" in February.

And, if Sept. long weekend opens up a bit more than planned, I might check out Spirit Of The West's Aug. 30th show in Calgary at the Stampede Casino for $39. If not, I hope to catch them sometime during the Oct 16 - 19 "Western Canada Music Awards" in Edmonton.

That's all for now, hope you enjoy the new page!

Show Review || Multiple Shows

Ok, although I plan on completely revamping this page to fit everything I want on it, I still wanted to tell you musically what's been happening. On Thursday June 26th, I went with Mandi & Tara to Calgary's James Joyce Authentic Irish Pub for a secret and very private Great Big Sea concert. And although the whole band hung out in the pub for a while afterwards, I chose to sit and chat wih the drummer Kris for a while, and was excited to get a set of my drummsticks signed. I'm still hounding him for a set of his, but I had to get something to display. Awesome show promoting their new album "Fortune's Favour" which of course I picked up this past Tuesday on it's release date.

Then, Sunday June 29th was our day trip to Banff to see Spirit Of The West perform during their 25th anniversary tour. I was hoping they might have albums and shirts for sale, but I was thrilled to get a drumstick from Vince and have the whole band sign it. Their new album comes out tomorrow, July 15th, so you can bet I'll be picking that one up.

And, to top off my concert list, I happened to win a couple of 50 cent tickets from Big 105, so last night (and into this morning) Blake & I enjoyed that party at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton. Although it wouldn't be a show I'd pay to see, it was a lot of fun, and somehow we managed to be in the front of the general admission crowd, which really made it a party. I wasn't sure who would bring their pre-teen kids (like maybe 7 years pre-teen) to this show, but a few choice people did. Wow. It was worth going and checking out what at one point in my life would've been a first-choice-to-go-to concert. Great night. I'm not sure if he has a new album out, but I don't think I'll be picking it up if he does.

In other album news, I believe Papa San has a new one out in September. The 2nd, if I remember correctly. That'll be another on my list to pick up.

But, to the best of my poor memory, I think that sums up my stereoactive news for the time being. Let me know in the feedback form if there's a hot show or album release that I should be looking into.

Oh, and I almost forgot! Great Big Sea is back in Alberta in November and December, so I'll be checking out their November 30th show in Edmonton and then the Calgary show on December 1st. Come with, it'll be a blast!

SHOW REVIEW || YC ALBERTA 2008

YC ALBERTA 2008 - PASSION || MAY 23-25, 2008 - REXALL PLACE, EDMONTON

As I create my Stereoactive page, I can't forget about the amazing music by Christian artists. This past YC weekend in Edmonton was absolutely amazing! I volunteered at the main doors this year, but I had so many awesome opportunities to not only experience amazing concerts, meet the amazing artists, get signatures and drumsticks, but I was also able to witness thousands of youth as they were touched by this ministry.

Bands that amazed me this weekend:
Papa San (Reggae from Jamaica)
KJ-52 (Rap / Comedy from USA)
John Reuben (Rap / Comedy from USA)
Grits (Rap from USA)
Newsboys (Rock from Australia)
Skillet (Rock from USA - with a new female drummer!)

Drumsticks Aquired (& signed) by:
Papa San's drummer Johnny & John Reuben's drummer Bobby Poole II. I also managed to get a signed guitar pick from John Reuben's bass player (Brad Binion). This happened because he asked me when I was back stage if I had a pick he could use. Being a drummer, I didn't. But being a YC Volunteer, I knew where to get one! So, I did find him one (thanks, whoever you are, I did try to get it back to you, but you weren't there anymore...) and after the show, I tried to return it signed to the guy I got it from, but I couldn't find it. So now I have it. Anyway, this is a longer entry then normal, so I'll say no more! Hopefully I'll have time to re-make this page soon. Keep your eye's open!

NEW SHOW DATE || SHIPS & DIP V

Ships & Dip V || Feb 1st - 6th, 2009

After this years S&D III, I'm so excited about V, but I'm also anxiously awaiting the list of performers. Will Great Big Sea be there? If not, is it worth going? Hmm, we'll have to wait and sea.

NEW RELEASE DATE || GREAT BIG SEA

Fortune's Favour || June 24th, 2008

Great Big Sea's newest album, "Fortune's Favour" will be out June 24th, 2008. I'm trying to decide if I should reserve it during the pre-sale (I still wouldn't get it until close to the release date anyway), or do I wait and buy it in store and save the shipping. Hmmm... Descisions, decisions!
