Just Curious, But...

At what point do the old guys at the pool change their comments about your liitle girl (who is wearing the string bikini you got her) from "ah, what a cute little girl" to "wow, what a sexy little hottie"? Just curious.

Camouflage

“Hey look!” says Mandi, looking around our Vancouver Island camp site. “These trees look like the design on camouflage clothes.”

Office Machine Advice

Always remember to check the copier/fax machine at work before hitting the start button to ensure the machine is in fact in "Copy" mode, and that someone hasn't typed in a phone number in preperation of sending a fax.

Oh, and if you got a fax from me this morning, please disregard.

Medications & Sexy Female Attire

I like analogies. They help me to understand and explain the most complex phenomena in the universe around us. One very useful analogy that came to me the other day is regarding medications and how they affect us.

Medications work very similarly to sexy female attire. The misunderstanding about both is that they will affect only on a specific target, where as the reality is that they effect both intended and unintended targets.

There's a point here, somewhere...

Clarification On "Good Friday" Business Hours

Ok, just to clarify any confusion about our holiday-hours sign at work. We are closed ON Good Friday FOR Good Friday. Not FOR good, Friday. We WILL be open again on Monday. Sorry for any inconvenience. :/

Cheese & Crackers (With Sausage, Of Course)

Ok, so you have a bag of sliced cheese, a container of sliced sausage, and box of crackers. (I, also have these items.) As you put cheese on cracker and sausage on cheese, and happily consume each set, you realize you don't have an equal quantity of each item. Knowing that you're going to eat each and every cracker, piece of sausage and slice of cheese, which item would you prefer to run out of first? (and second?)

For me, the meat is a nice addition, but I can always enjoy a tasty snack of cheese and crackers. And, as much as like cheese, I seldom find myself pulling out cheese slices over a box of crackers when I need a simple snack. Thus, the order in which I would prefer to run out would be meat first, then cheese, and then finally I'll finish off the crackers by themselves.

And lucky me! That looks like the case this time. Yay! :)

The Eagle & A Short February (& A Forgotten Narnia)

What?  It's March already?  Wow.  I mean, I know February is a short month, but really.  I guess considering I was gone for a week, that only leaves 3.  And those 3 were hectically spent trying to sell a house (still for sale, by the way) and thinking about studying for my EMT course. So, I guess it's acceptable.

And amidst it all, I was even able to go to a show.  On the14th, Valentine's Day, we went to the theatre totally unaware of the play list.  By the time we got there, our choices were limited.  We chose "The Eagle".  It started off really strong, and I thought we were in for a great ride.  But then (and I hope this doesn't ruin it for you), Channing Tatum gets injured in the first battle scene, and the movie gears down to a crawl.  Great story though, based on Rosemary Sutcliff's book "The Eagle of the Ninth", if you're into historic Roman themed adventures.  I think I'll pass on the DVD, as I already have the higher paced but similar themed "Centurion".

And I can't believe I almost forgot!  Chronicles Of Narnia - Voyage Of The Dawn Treader came out in December, and we of course we went to see it.  It was a good movie, as I expected, but, also as I expected I suppose, the movie had some significant differences to the book.  And, what's with trying to make everything 3 D?  I mean, seriously.  I don't think anything jumped out at me, as far as I can remember.  But I do recall being regularly annoyed by those glasses.  And what?  3D movies cost more to see?  Good movie, some small annoyances.

Fitting Terminology?

I found the following at Wikipedia while looking up Tissue Necrosis (the premature death of cells and living tissue)

..."it is often necessary to remove necrotic tissue surgically, a process known as debridement."

I wonder if the person who came up with this phrase was a disgruntled husband.

Random Peg Hooks

When crouching down to add stock to an empty peg hook, be very aware of the superior peg hooks that would end up at forehead level if you happened to be squatting down to add stock to the inferior peg hooks. Especially if you happened to be in a hurry, there for squatting very quickly, quickly enough that if your forehead were to actually contact the aforementioned superior peg hook it would result in a minor hematoma to develope on your forehead. Purely hypothetical.

Oh, the little red bump on my forehead is likely just a zit or something unrelated, in case you might be wondering.

Forever Going Out Of Business

I think Prestige Furniture in Red Deer should change their adds from “Going Out Of Business Forever” to “Forever Going Out Of Business”. Sheesh!

And when I Googled it, I found this that made me laugh.

Completely unrelated, I really hope if and when people read my notes, they don’t think to themselves, “Wow, this guy really needs some writing lessons!”

Audio Books At A Distance

I think listening to an audio book from a distance (like if one's wife is upstairs listening in the kitchen and one is not) could be a great cure if one suffers from insomnia. However, I fear the kind of sleep one might get would be the kind where one’s dreams are saturated with the noises of the conscious (for example, an audio book). Here's hoping it's a good story!

2011 And Beyond

I hope everyone had a great 2010, a great Christmas season and a Happy New Year.

For me, it was a busy year, but mostly productive. I enjoyed cruising on The Rock Boat X & completed my EMR course in January. I Spent a few weeks in June & July in Europe meeting family and travelling England, Italy, Austria, Germany, & The Netherlands, and then finished off the summer putting some finishing touches on our new yard. Throughout the fall I spent most of my free time training for my new volunteer position with the Red Deer County fire dept, and working at my EMT course, which is now in full force as I finish off the year.

I was very happy to hang out in my area with family and friends coming to visit over Christmas, and was able to spend some much needed time with Nichole in the last couple of weeks.

I don't really do New Year Resolutions, however I did recently start working at the physical aspect of my Fire Medic training with a new membership at Pure Fitness. I'm not sure which is more work, that, or my actual course. Wow.

I’m sure many other very important things have taken place in the past 12 months, but these are the ones that stand out in my mind at this point.

How about you? What are the most significant things that happened in your 2010?
